SURFING -
Costa Rica Surfing
You definately know you're in a surf town when you go to Jaco! Surfing
has always been a big draw to Jaco as the waves are friendly to b

eginners,
and the beach is long with many surf breaks and it has a sandy bottom.
Of course, all this requires support services for surfers - board
repairs, surf shops, economical places to eat and stay for those on a
budget, and, of course, the flavor of surfing's influence is
everywhere!

Costa Rica offers a unique environment where you can surf the Caribbean
in the morning and the Pacific in the afternoon - For instance on the
Caribbean / Atlantic side, you have amazing reef breaks like the very
famous Salsa Brava and Isla Uvita, and also the beach breaks like the
one in Cocles Beach and Manzanillo. This will also give you the
opportunity to see more of the different kinds of Costa Rican cultures.
Then, go over to the Pacific side where you have the world’s longest
left side waves in Pavones, the well known Which´s Rock for the perfect
left and right break with the longest barrels, and of course Hermosa´s
beach break where you always come out with a great smile! Over on the
Pacific side you have the cowboys, the real ¨ticos¨, the mixture of the
best quality service and food and where you can just indulge watching
the most astonishing sunsets that you will never forget.
Billabong World Surfing Games (July 31 - Aug. 8, 2009) - South of Jaco and only a 5 minute drive away is Playa Hermosa, the beach that will host the next Billabong ISA World Surfing Games 2009. Playa Hermosa is located on the Pacific Coast. Considered one of the best places to surf in the world, though visitors need to exercise caution. At noon the black sand is hot and if you don´t use some kind of shoes you may burn your feet. However the beach is beautiful and it’s surrounded by incredible nature.
In the past few years, the city of Jaco has witnessed an explosive growth in development. You may find: hotels, restaurants, ice cream stores, furniture stores, pharmacies, supermarkets, bakeries, car, scooter and ATV rentals, medical clinics, hardware stores, banks, electric appliances stores, educational institutions, realtors, spas, and many other businesses. Furthermore, Jaco (Garabito county) has all the public services a community requires: Social Security Clinic, Red Cross, Police (Touristic, Rural and Municipal), sports facilities, recreational parks, schools and public high schools, church, and governmental offices.
